Empowering teachers and students with creativity of music.

Supporting education and innovation using song writing skills of the masters.

In the words of the African saying ‘if you could speak you could sing, if you can walk you can dance’, the natural ability that we have enabled us to be musical is in fact  what makes us human. It is more evident in the child and it is my belief that allowing the child to be creative would help the personality grow in a natural way and enhance critical thinking.

Also having no assessment of what work is done, no comment of whether something is good or bad, just unedited and full of encouragement is all that is required to allow the creative magic to happen. Hi my name is Vic Hyland and I will help you through this creative adventure.

Materials for Learning Including Free Guitars

Using creative techniques honed over years of work delivered by video links either as clips or face to face enables the pupils and the teachers to create songs write poems and later learn other skills such as DJing, rapping, singing and instruments including keyboards, guitar and drums. We have instruments on free loan if you are in the Kent and Sussex area

Continuing Education for Teachers

We can offer training in the creative techniques to take you into the psychological aspects of the art which then can be applied to other areas of critical thinking such as problem solving, idea generation as well as other arts including story telling and poetry.

Support for music and the arts

The initial work of Ikaro is for the young to use their natural creativity to create music, lyrics, poetry and to fire their enthusiasm for playing an instrument at a later stage. We have as musicians and teachers links with many respected musicians who have a passion to bring their art to education to encourage the young. In this time the arts need this interaction with education and to find new ways of supporting the performing musician and although this is not in the remit of what we do we can certainly help to make those connections possible if you are interested.

Thanks to our many patrons

I would like to mention in particular

Dave Ralph 1954-2021

Dave was a very gifted blues and rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. From the late 60s until he sadly passed away  in 2021 he was writing, recording and performing around London and the South East. He was based first in Gravesend, then South London and then Faversham where his band became a much loved fixture at the annual Hop Festival. In 2005 Dave began to teach guitar to students of all ages. As a self-taught musician with no formal teacher training, he taught by the power of the music, love of the instrument and his own unique style of communication. As with most things in life - he did it his way, he loved it and it worked. He is very much missed.  He would be delighted to know that some of the guitars which made their way to him have now found a home with Ikaro.
